About Lauren

I am a degree-qualified naturopath with a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy).

I offer online consultations for patients Australia-wide. Face-to-face consultations available in Lennox Head or Mullumbimby clinics.

I have always had a passion for learning about health and nutrition and a curiosity for understanding what drives development of disease and ill health.

However, this doesn’t mean I have always implemented positive practices. Like many people, I thought I was invincible when I was young. I prioritised working, travelling and having fun over eating well, sleeping well and looking after my mental and physical health.

With the gift of youth, I was capable of burning the candle at both ends and remaining seemingly healthy. However, this didn’t last and eventually I succumbed to my poor choices and my health declined. I suffered from recurrent tonsillitis for years, ongoing fatigue, depression, chronic gut problems including IBS, skin problems such as acne and perioral dermatitis.  Chronic pain also became a frustrating fixture of my daily existence (due to scoliosis and fibromyalgia).

For many years, I worked in a demanding and competitive corporate environment. I reached the point where I frequently felt highly stressed, anxious and had debilitating back and neck pain. Looking back, I believe my body and mind were telling me (screaming at me in fact!) that I needed to focus on getting well again and to change my life’s direction.

Numerous times, I sought medical help for my conditions however I became increasingly frustrated by the fact I wasn’t improving. In fact, things were worsening. I felt defeated.

When I tried visiting a naturopath for the first time, I was struck by the fact she was the first practitioner who really took the time to listen and try to understand the full picture of what was going on in my life. She sat me down and asked me to “start at the beginning”. I’ve never forgotten how her caring and thorough approach in itself made me feel better, calmer immediately. I tried herbal medicine for the first time (I love my herbs now!) and I began to experience improvement in my symptoms and my overall outlook. From this experience, I realised naturopathy aligned with me and my body. And it led me on the path to eventually deciding to study naturopathy myself.

When the timing was right, I pursued my passion and began studying towards my degree. Juggling two children and managing chronic pain whilst studying was certainly no walk in the park. However, I intuitively felt I was treading the right path. I want to help people overcome health challenges and offer hope and positive outcomes when they might have felt there were no answers.

As a mother of two children, I’m familiar with the struggles that come with striving to keep a family healthy, whilst also ensuring I look after myself. Regardless of people’s individual circumstances – whether there are work, home, or personal pressures – contemporary society is stressful. The majority of us are struggling to find the time to address everything we are faced with, and unfortunately we may end up putting our physical and mental health last on the priority list.

Additionally, we are bombarded with so much information about health and diets and so on, that it is overwhelming and often confusing to know where to start when embarking on a road to recovery or general health improvement.

Working with a naturopath makes the path to better health easier to navigate and it can help you unearth the factors that may be holding you back from feeling your best.

My Approach

I like to help people implement positive, realistic habits that they can sustain ongoing. I treat holistically by considering a patient’s past and present health, lifestyle, diet, mental wellbeing, exposure to environmental and chemical toxins, genetic predispositions and much more.

Each patient receives a personalised treatment plan along with support to achieve their goals. What works for one person is not necessarily right for another person with a similar condition. Therefore I like to spend the time listening to a patient and understanding their experience so I can tailor treatment effectively. The aim is to restore health in a gentle manner and at a pace that the patient feels comfortable with. Affordability is also a key consideration.

A combination of traditional naturopathic wisdom along with up-to-date scientific research in the field of health guides the development of my patients’ treatment plans.

Naturopathy is about re-establishing balance in the body so that it can heal itself, rather than offering a band-aid solution that does not address the origin of the complaint. By addressing the cause, a patient is more likely to experience lasting improvement.

Naturopathic treatments may include:

Functional testing may be ordered where relevant. Recent blood pathology results may be analysed.
